Description

I Am Writing Picture Books The Little Tiger Way waiting list!

Our current Little Tiger days are full, but please join the waiting list if you would like to be the first to know about further events.

THE PITCH!

Join a day of informal workshops, with nuggets of wisdom from a cutting-edge picture-book publisher! The day includes practical tips to help you improve your writing and stand out on submission, a tour of Tiger Towers in London, food and drink to keep you fuelled throughout the day and one-to-one feedback on two of your own pre-submitted texts from a Little Tiger editor!

WHO IS LITTLE TIGER?

Little Tiger Press prides itself on developing aspiring and debut authors to launch them into the market. Combined with I Am In Print, an experienced literary event management duo, this is the perfect day out to find your picture book writing tribe and take away lots of advice!

ABOUT THE DAY

This is an opportunity for picture book text writers to spend the day at the Little Tiger publishing office with Stephanie Stansbie (Editorial Director), Perry Emerson (Commissioning Editor) and Dyanni Swhyer-Brown (Editor) to discover exactly what they look for in the world of picture books.

This courses are limited to 16 places to maximise learning!

Throughout the day, the Little Tiger team will work in small groups to share key knowledge, set simple writing exercises and equip you with the skills to create your best work. Topics include:

CREATE A COMPELLING STRUCTURE

Does your story have a satisfying narrative arc? Will readers be propelled through each page towards a powerful ending? Will they want to read it all over again? Discover how to structure your storytelling to create maximum impact.

HARNESS YOUR HOOK

Find out about the elusive ‘hook’. Editors need a strong hook in order to sell ideas to the sales force. No hook, no book! But what exactly does that mean? What makes a good hook and how does it shape your narrative? Learn about this vital component of your storytelling.

HONE YOUR TONE

Picture books are a unique format, with multiple ways to be enjoyed and myriad ways to tell the same story. Learn how to resonate with your audience and hone your style to suit your subject matter and the needs of the market.

STAND OUT ON SUBMISSION

How do you capture the attention of an agent or editor in the unflatteringly designated ‘slush pile’?! Drawing on the earlier sessions, learn how to condense your story into a compelling pitch and avoid common submission pitfalls.

TOUR OF TIGER TOWERS

Meet the creative team on a tour of the Little Tiger publishing house. And enjoy a hands-on display of every stage in the life of a book. Plus there will be a sneak peak of Little Tiger’s current, top-secret picture-book list!

ONE-TO-ONES

Receive ten minutes of face-to-face constructive feedback and guidance from an experienced editor on your two best picture book texts to encourage you to improve your work in a friendly, positive environment. The feedback will focus on the one picture book text Little Tiger feels has most potential.

DEADLINE DAY FOR SUBMISSIONS: TUESDAY 7 APRIL 2026 at 1pm BST

This is the deadline for submitting your two picture book texts to be discussed in the one-to-one.

FOR YOUR COMFORT

We want to look after you as best we can so when booking you will be invited to let us know of any specific needs you may have. These may be dietary or cognitive; whatever we can do to assist with your comfort on the day, just let us know.

SPEND THE DAY WITH A FRIEND

Little Tiger and the two of us are keen to keep friends together. So when you book your place, let us know who you know that's coming too, and we will do our best to make sure you're in the same group.

MAKE NEW FRIENDS

You will be invited to share your mobile number when booking. If you decide to do so, we will add you to a WhatsApp group so you can keep in contact with the other delegates attending.

Both I Am In Print and Little Tiger look forward to sharing the day with you.
